Olympic Rings symbol is a well-known logo of the union of 5 parts of the world and emblem of Olympiad. Pierre de Coubertin, the famous French community leader and sports activist, came up with the idea of the rings almost 100 years ago. The Olympic rings necklace looks like 5 interlocked circles forming 2 rows: 3 circles in the upper row and 2 in the lower row. The logo’s circles are painted with 5 distinct colors symbolizing 5 distinct continents. Alternatively, five colors on this sign stand for 5 types of energy: earth, iron, wood, water, and fire. These correspond with 5 classic Olympic sports. Fencing stands for fire, target shooting – metal, running – earth, riding – nature, swimming – water. Today, this famous symbol is widely recognized and points to the unifying nature of the competition.
