Cross of Salem symbol (Pontifical Cross) has three crossbars crossing the main vertical crossbar placed on the same distance from each other. The middle of the horizontal ones is the widest, and the upper and the lower are a bit shorter creating an image with vertical symmetry. The word Salem in the name refers to the biblical town and to the part of the word “Jerusalem”. The form of the sign was invented by Freemasons or Templar Knights.
